The Fool

Meanings: New beginnings, fresh starts, innocence, optimism, a new direction, incredible potential (the kind which is represented by infinity and nothingness which may become somethingness, like the possibility of a blank canvas), being carefree and with few obligations, youthful or childlike energy

Reversed meanings: Being taken advantage of, naivetè, lack of forethought, gullible, inexperienced

The Fool represents the first step in the journey of tarot. With stars in their eyes, the Fool traditionally takes the leap of faith that begins all events. The Fool has a childlike wonder, and doesn't yet fear the trials of the world. This is truly their greatest asset: taking the initiative to begin something which could be great, and being undeterred by worry and doubt.

Here, the fool hovers between the surface and the deep that can't even be imagined, the clarity of few past experiences (the sunlight) and the mysteries which are yet to be discovered (the moon and the darkness). What the Fool leaps into is never shown, but rest assured: The Fool will be fine. They always are. It's only the first step, and then you trust the process.
